SAP R3 Implementation

The Client

A subsidiary of the German chemical company Celanese, Celanese Mexicana is the largest synthetics maker in Mexico. The company produces acetate, acetyls, methyls, acrylates, oxo, and amines. Major products include MicroSafe, an antimicrobial yarn used in apparel and health care, as well as Vectran, a strong fiber used in the Mars Pathfinder airbags. Celanese Mexicana has 22 plants in Mexico and also operates in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

The Challenge

During preparation for Year 2000, Celanese Mexico discovered that its legacy systems were Y2K incompatible. New systems were required for key processes affecting over 1,000 users, including Finance, Procurement, and Order Fulfillment and Maintenance. In addition, the client wanted new systems to manage and measure key business objectives. The decision was made to standardize processes across all divisions of the firm. They turned to BearingPoint for our workforce experience, resources, proven delivery speed, local presence and market knowledge, and alliance partners.

The Solutions

BearingPoint implemented a SAP R3 solution at Celanese Mexicana to replace Y2K incompatible legacy systems. SAP R3 Solution is a comprehensive system for software, process, and technology integration. The SAP R3 modules implemented at Celanese Mexicana were:

The financial and procurement processes were implemented across all of Celanese Mexicana’s business divisions. Order fulfillment and maintenance module began as pilot projects, then extended to other divisions.
