The Client

One of the largest specialty chemical companies in the world, Degussa AG, is committed to exceeding customer expectations by providing high-quality products, exceptional service, and innovative solutions.

The Challenge

Traditionally, the construction chemicals market has focused on creating an eCommerce environment for project bidding, procurement, and project management. Degussa wanted to further extend its eCommerce initiatives by seamlessly integrating its suppliers and customers using Internet-based technology that could be applied to their SAP R/3 backend system. As a result, they asked BearingPoint to help develop a strategy to optimize the demand chain for Degussa AG’s Construction Chemicals business unit.

The Solution

BearingPoint began the project by conducting a preliminary strategy requirements assessment and vendor selection process. In addition, we provided a long-term strategic plan that identified Degussa’s goals in the context of its overall objectives for optimizing demand chain management. Based on the review, we implemented a solution developed by HAHT Commerce, which has a track record of delivering demand chain management solutions on time and on budget and can be integrated easily with SAP R/3.

The Benefits

By rapidly deploying our Supply Chain Management solutions to create a the new eCommerce channel, BuyChemTM, that integrates suppliers and customers, we assisted Degussa in increasing revenues, reducing costs, improving customer retention, and enhancing its competitive advantage. The channel now provides customers with real-time product pricing and information, 24/7 order entry and tracking, and just-in-time deliverables.
