The Client

Medtronic, a leading medical technology company, helps its physician customers treat patients suffering from chronic diseases by manufacturing devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and mechanical tissue heart valves.

The Challenge

To help implement their vision of transforming its operations to a digital platform, Medtronic engaged BearingPoint to create a blueprint for its Web initiatives. The priorities of the engagement were to boost employee productivity, build an online procurement system, improve human resources operations, and develop a digital marketplace. The challenges included decentralized employee databases, inconsistent and untimely data, and limited collaboration capabilities.

The Solution

By way of our Workforce and Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) Solutions, Medtronic employees now have the ability to engage in self-service activities and an online Procurement system that significantly improves employee and supply chain efficiencies, including replacing 90 percent of paper-based transactions. In addition to helping Medtronic attract and retain high level employees, our Workforce solution extends the collaboration between employees, customers, sales force, and patients. The Workforce solutions at Medtronic supports 25,000 employees worldwide.
